Online Passport Renewal Service Revealed in Pakistan

Like we told you earlier about the  NADRA’s online passport system  that they have been developing for quite some time now and it appears that we have finally a sneak peak of what it will look like at the time of launch. NADRA and Directorate General of Immigration and Passports have collaborated to offer Pakistani citizens a service that they badly needed, i.e. to be able renew their passports online without going to Passport offices. Service would be aimed for both Pakistanis living in Pakistan and abroad. Service is currently not available immediately, but it is said that service will be made available very soon now. Anyone with an expired passport or if its validity is less than 7 months would be able to ahead and apply for passports online and get the renewed passport delivered to a designated postal address. PSDP 2016-17: Govt Allocates Rs. 938 Million for IT and Telecom Projects

Government of Pakistan has allocated a total of Rs. 938.02 Million from Public Sector Development Programe 2016-17 for new and ongoing telecom and IT projects, official documents available with ProPakistani revealed. Rs. 834.02 million will be spent on various on-going projects while Rs. 90 million is allocated for three new projects to be started during 2016-17. In addition to PSDP’s Rs. 938 million, another Rs. 171 million will be availed through foreign aid and hence total allocation for IT and Telecom project would stand at Rs. 1.10 Billion. It must be noted that total fund for public sector development programme for 2016-17 is around Rs. 800 billion, out of which less than Rs. 1 billion is allocated for It and Telecom projects. NADRA Makes a Substantial Reducation in Smart ID Card Fees

The fee for the Smart National Identity Card (SNIC) has been decreased by NADRA. Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar, has ordered the authority to reduce the fees for the smart ID cards substantially, we have learned. Smart National Identity Card The smart ID card contains  a QR code for easier and faster identification as well as a data chip with 36 security features which makes it one of the most secure cards in the world. Telcom Sector Revenues Dip Deeper During 2015-16

Revenues of telecom sector during July 2015 to March 2016 are estimated at Rs 333.2 billion, revealed the Economic Survey (2015-2016) released on Thursday. Revenues for 12 months during July 2014 to June 2015 were recorded at Rs. 449.6 billion. Survey said that decline in revenues could be due to loss of millions of cellular subscribers after Biometric Verification System (BVS) re-verification process and intense competition and low tariffs. Economic Survey of Pakistan said decline in telecom revenues is in line with the international trend of profitability and revenues in telecom industry. However, the report said that Pakistan’s telecom industry can improve its revenue generation by expanding their value added services and entering into new avenues of growth such as branchless / mobile financial services and other ICT enabled services in collaboration with other service providers in the economy. There are more than 2 million apps on Google Play Store and around 1.5 million on Apple’s iTunes App Store yet the number of apps that actually get installed and used regularly is quite small. 60 Million Pakistanis Survive on Rs. 2500 Monthly: Report

In a country where 200 million people reside and where the government likes to remind us about the financial improvement in Pakistani’s lives, over 60 million people earn less than Rs 2,500 each month. These stats were revealed in the most recent Household Income and Expenditure Survey. Based on the aforementioned report, the government is planning to devise a new criteria for what it means to be in a poverty line. The new poverty line will be set at Rs. 3,032 per adult equivalent per month. Any household income that comes to less than that, which translates to about one-third (29.5%) of the whole country, will be classified as poor.
