Social Media Analytics, Meet Big Brother

The American Civil Liberties Union recently uncovered evidence that led Twitter, Facebook and its Instagram subsidiary to stop sharing data with Geofeedia, a firm accused of improperly collecting social media data on protest groups, and sharing that information with numerous law enforcement agencies. Geofeedia, a developer of location-based analytics, had been marketing its technology to law enforcement agencies. It was used for such purposes as monitoring Black Lives Matter protests in Ferguson, Missouri, and Baltimore, Maryland, according to the ACLU. The ACLU of Northern California uncovered the practice after requesting public records information from 63 law enforcement agencies in California. Pakistani Hacker Gains Access to Indian GPS Servers with Realtime Info on Police Vehicles

In a first of its kind incident, a Pakistani Hacker has gained access to Indian GPS Servers that contain the real time information of official vehicles of various Indian departments, including Indian Police. Named as “Fakir” of Pakistan haxors Crew, the Pakistani hacker claims to have gained the access to the said servers and maintains that he has control over Indian Police vehicles at the moment. Pakistani hacker made these revelations at a time when  cyber war between India and Pakistan  has intensified and both sides are exploring all possible opportunities to defect the opponents’ critical infrastructure. Inter-Ministerial Committee Meets for Implementation of Cyber Crime Bill

The first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee constituted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan to develop the organizational structure and rules for implementation of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 was held at MoIT today. The meeting was chaired by the Federal Minister for Law & Justice Mr. Zahid Hamid. Minister of State for IT Mrs. Anusha Rehman, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Khawaja Zaheer Ahmad, Secretary MoIT, Special Secretary Interior ADG FIA, Member Telecom, Member Legal and senior officials from Law & Justice, PTA, NECTA, IB, ISI & MoIT were also present in the meeting. The Committee extensively reviewed the PECA 2016 in the light of the ToRs of the IMC for PECA. Samsung Delays Note 7 Shipments for Additional Quality Control Tests

Samsung today said that it is delaying shipments of its newest Note 7 in markets where company’s flagship device Note 7 isn’t launched. Decision was made after media reports that said at least two Note 7 smartphones  exploded while charging . Korean tech giant said that Note 7 shipments are being delayed for now for additional quality control tests to ensure that its product is entirely safe before it is shipped to the consumers. Company has advised its customers to consume original charger only for Note 7 charging. While confirming  Reuters , Samsung said that shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 are being delayed due to additional tests being conducted for product quality. Weeks after the images for the same were leaked, Samsung have now officially launched the Galaxy J7 Prime. The device is now listed on the company’s Vietnam-based website. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870 SoC, clocked in at 1.6GHz with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. For your storage and memory requirements, the J7 Prime comes with 32GB expandable internal storage with 3GB of RAM. It packs a 3,300mAh battery which, in theory, should be good enough to last an entire day with moderate usage. At the back of this 5.5-inch full HD display, the device has a 13-megapixel rear camera which has a f/1.9 aperture with LED flash capable of supporting full HD video recording.
