Samsung Reveals 16 TB SSD Drives, Highest Capacity Till Date

With everyone supposedly suffering from storage issues these days, it is good to see someone standing up for the profound issues that affect humanity the most: Samsung. It’s remarkable 16 TB PM1633a SSDs are finally available now.
First announced last year, the 2.5-inch solid state hard drives are the highest capacity SSDs ever to grace us with their presence. And as you might expect, it is the enterprise sector which needs the greatest and the fastest that’s being targeted. The form factor is chosen so that as many of them are put in server racks as possible.
They offer sequential read and write speeds of 1200 MB/s, or random read and write speeds of 200,000 and 32,000 IOPS respectively. It is built by combining 512 of Samsung’s 256 GB V-NAND memory chips, which stacks cell arrays in 48 layers for a total of 256 GB per die.
All of these make sure that the drive has the highest NAND flash density of any SD ever. The NAND in this SSD is around 2x to 10x more long-lasting than normal MLC and TLC NANDs.
It will likely last you a long time by supporting 1 DWPD (drive writes per day) over the course of years. It will support up to 16 GB of DDR3 DRAM on a 12 GB/s SAS interface, a lot higher than the conventional 256-512 GB.
If you believe you don’t exactly need the 15.36 GB of goodness, there’ll be 7.68 TB, 3.84 TB, 1.92 TB, 960 GB and 480 GB versions available on retail starting from later this year.
Pricing was never meant to be a strength here, and with previous SSD drives costing as much as $1000, there have been estimates going as high as $8000 on the internet. We hope to hear more about it in the coming few weeks.

OPPO’s Super VOOC can Fully Charge a Phone Battery in 15 Minutes

With every iteration of flagship phones, they get smarter and more powerful. However, one thing that remains seemingly stagnant is battery life. There has been little to no innovation in Lithium Ion batteries and increasing capacity brings its own challenges like higher charging time and the size of the phone. So instead of creating new batteries, companies have shifted their focus on faster charging and OPPO IS coming out with a bang. Super VOOC by OPPO is a battery charger that fully charges a mobile in just 15 minutes. Still in its prototype phase, Super VOOC Flash Charge, which is OPPO’s upgrade to VOOC Flash Charge, can charge a 2500mAh battery from 0-100% in just about 15 minutes. The technology can be used on both USB Type-C and Micro-USB. Super VOOC actually uses a 5v low voltage pulse algorithm that not only provides a safe charging and prevents overheating, the direct power transmission to the battery without any conversion, results in a 97% charging efficiency.
