SOFTEC 16 Starts From March 12th at FAST-NU Lahore


The National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NU) organizes the SOFTEC event annually at its Lahore campus. The aim of this event is to promote Information Technology and encourage it via exciting competitions and exhibitions. The event celebrates its 20 years of legacy in 2016. It has been assisting students and professionals, providing them with a platform to exchange ideas, showcase their exceptional skills and display their innovative solutions. It’s a great place for IT professionals, academics and students to come together and bridge the gap between leading professionals and upcoming entrepreneurs.
For the past two decades, the event has been annually conducted at the FAST-NU Lahore campus and each year has made the event bigger than the previous one. Participants’ interest has also grown significantly over the past competitions and has become one of the most anticipated annual event not only for the students of FAST-NU but for all participating institutions. It is the most promoted and participated event at FAST.
SOFTEC event in Lahore has established itself with regard to IT. People of all age groups participate in the event. This is one of the few student organised events which gathers over 1,200 participants from over 100 institutions. The event includes 8 competitions and 4 exhibitions, listed below:

  • Web Development Competition
  • Graphic Designing Competition
  • Gaming Competition
  • Robo Rumble (Competition)
  • Ideas Extreme (Competition)

  • Software House Enclosure (Exhibition)
A new addition to the list of competitions is the “SOFTEC-IER”. It is a title for the university which wins the most competitions or displays the best performance at the event.
Each competition has its own winning prizes for the topper and the runner ups. Winners will get a share in prizes worth Rs 600,000. There will be separate prizes for event day activities as well.

The last date to get registered for the event is March 3rd, 2016.

Do keep in mind that registrations aren’t free and require payments from Rs 500 to Rs 2,500 depending on the event type. International participations are slated higher, ranging from $20 to $80.

SOFTEC ’16 will take place on March 12th to March 13th 2016 at FAST-NU, Lahore Campus with the theme “Science and Technology – Our Islamic Heritage”.

World’s First Urdu Speaking AI Assistant Launched

C-Square, in collaboration with Genesys, has launched the world’s first Urdu-based speaking AI bot called RUBA at the Smart CX conference in Karachi. Similar to Apple’s Siri, Google’s Assistant and Microsoft’s Cortana personal assistants, RUBA is an abbreviation for Real Urdu Bot Automation. The bot can speak and understand Urdu while working as your personal assistant in performing tasks such as messaging someone. Online Passport Renewal Service Revealed in Pakistan

Like we told you earlier about the  NADRA’s online passport system  that they have been developing for quite some time now and it appears that we have finally a sneak peak of what it will look like at the time of launch. NADRA and Directorate General of Immigration and Passports have collaborated to offer Pakistani citizens a service that they badly needed, i.e. to be able renew their passports online without going to Passport offices. Service would be aimed for both Pakistanis living in Pakistan and abroad. Service is currently not available immediately, but it is said that service will be made available very soon now. Anyone with an expired passport or if its validity is less than 7 months would be able to ahead and apply for passports online and get the renewed passport delivered to a designated postal address.
