Samsung Unveils the First 256 GB microSD Card

People with high-end shooting devices rejoice. Samsung has announced a new EVO Plus 256 GB microSD card which has the highest storage capacity in its class and will retail for $250 (approx. Rs, 26,000). We have already seen similar solutions from SanDisk quite a while back, but none quite comes close to Samsung in terms of legroom and features.

The card is UHS-I, Class 10 (U3) compatible, so it won’t be a slouch when it comes to speeds. Supporting Samsung’s latest V-NAND technology and Charge Trap Flash, it can achieve read speeds of 95MB/s and write speeds of 90MB/s.
It is also built to last long. According to Samsung, it is waterproof at under up to one meter for 30 minutes, as well as X-ray, temperature and magnetic-proof. There’s also 10-year warranty to go along with that, so there’s that.

So how much storage exactly is 256 GB? Enough to record up to 12 hours of 4K UHD, 33 hours of Full HD & 46 hours of 720p videos; 23,500 MP3s, or 55,200 photos.

It can also shoot 10 hours of straight 4K video at 30 frames per second from the GoPro HERO 4 action cam. As our storage demands rise with ever-improving resolutions and detailing, it is clear that Samsung is setting the precedent for many storage options to come.
As told earlier, the card will retail for $249.99, starting from this June in more than 50 countries. You can start going through your favorite online stores starting from then.
